Ingredients
  

For the Vanilla Dough
  • 150 g 150 g flour For mixing into the dough
  • 60 g 60 g icing sugar Sifted
  • 1 packet 1 packet vanilla sugar Equivalent to about 1 teaspoon
  • 1.5 packets 1 ½ packets vanilla pudding powder Equivalent to about 4.5 tablespoons
  • 125 g 125 g margarine Softened
  • 1 tsp 1 teaspoon water
For the Chocolate Dough
  • 170 g 170 g flour (remaining) Combine with remaining ingredients
  • 0.5 packet ½ a packet vanilla pudding powder
  • 1 packet 1 packet dark chocolate pudding powder Equivalent to about 3 tablespoons
For Baking and Coating
  • 200 g 200 g dark chocolate For melting
  • 25 g 25 g coconut oil For melting with the chocolate
Miscellaneous
  • 120 g 120 g icing sugar For dusting on top before serving

Method
 

Preparation of Vanilla Dough
  1. In a large bowl, mix together 150 g of flour, 60 g of icing sugar, 1 packet of vanilla sugar, and 1 ½ packets of vanilla pudding powder.
  2. Add 125 g of softened margarine and 1 teaspoon of water.
  3. Knead the mixture until it forms a smooth dough.
  4. Cover and chill in the fridge for 15 minutes.
Preparation of Chocolate Dough
  1. In another bowl, combine the remaining flour with ½ a packet of vanilla pudding powder and 1 packet of dark chocolate pudding powder.
  2. Chill the chocolate dough mixture in the fridge for 15 minutes.
Shaping the Dough
  1. Once both doughs are chilled, shape each into long strands.
  2. Arrange the strands in a checkerboard pattern, twist them together, and cut them into bite-sized pieces.
Baking the Cake
  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F).
  2. Place the cookie pieces onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15 minutes.
Preparing the Chocolate Coating
  1. While the pieces are cooling, melt the dark chocolate and coconut oil together in a bowl.
  2. Dip each cookie piece into the chocolate mixture before placing them back onto the baking paper to set.

Notes

You can add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for extra flavor and keep the cake in an airtight container to maintain its moistness.
