Ingredients

For the Apple Filling
  • 6 cups peeled and sliced apples (about 6-7 medium apples)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar approximately 200 g
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice approximately 15 ml
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon approximately 2 g
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg approximately 1 g
For the Topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour approximately 125 g
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar approximately 220 g
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats approximately 40 g
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed approximately 115 g

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, toss together the sliced apples with granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well coated.
  3. Spread the apple mixture evenly in a greased baking dish.
  4. In another mixing bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, and rolled oats. Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple mixture in the baking dish.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the topping is golden and the apple mixture is bubbly.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For the best flavor, use a mix of sweet and tart apples like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp. This allows for depth and balance. You can prepare the filling and crumble topping separately and assemble before baking.
