  • 2 lbs ground beef (80/20 fat ratio preferred)
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 large bell peppers, diced (green, red, or mixed)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce 30 ml

  • 8 oz provolone cheese, sliced
  • 1.5 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded 150 g
  • 1 tbsp olive oil 15 ml

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and spray a 9x13 baking dish with non-stick spray.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and bell peppers. Sauté for about 5-6 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds, stirring constantly.
  4. Add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spatula. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for about 7-8 minutes, until browned and no pink remains. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  5. Pour in the Worcestershire sauce, stir to coat evenly, then reduce heat to low. Add softened cream cheese and stir until melted and creamy.
  6. Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
  7. Tear the provolone cheese and layer it over the beef mixture, followed by sprinkling the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
  8. Bake in the oven for 22-25 minutes, or until cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.
  9. Allow the casserole to rest for about 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

This casserole pairs well with a fresh side salad or steamed vegetables. Consider serving with low-carb ranch or blue cheese dressing for an extra flavor kick.
