  • 24 oz meat-flavored spaghetti sauce
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt For seasoning the meat.
  • 1/2 tablespoon black pepper Adjust to taste.
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
For the Cheese Mixture
  • 8 oz sour cream
  • 8 oz small curd cottage cheese
  • 6 oz cream cheese Ensure it's at room temperature.
  • 6 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt For flavor.
For Assembly
  • 12 pieces lasagna noodles Cooked according to package instructions.
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground sirloin. Season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Drain excess fat and stir in the meat-flavored spaghetti sauce. Let simmer on low heat.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine sour cream, cottage cheese, and softened cream cheese. Add in 3 tablespoons of grated Parmesan and 1 teaspoon salt. Mix well until smooth.
  4. Boil the lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain them and lay them flat on a tray.
  5. Lightly grease a deep 9×13-inch baking dish.
Layering
  1. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the dish. Place 3 lasagna noodles on top of the sauce.
  2. Add 1/3 of the meat sauce, followed by 1/3 of the cheese mixture. Sprinkle with 1/3 of the shredded cheddar and mozzarella. Repeat this layering process twice more, finishing with noodles on top.
  3. Top the last layer of noodles with the remaining mozzarella cheese.
Baking
  1. Bake uncovered for 40 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown. For a crispy top, broil on low for an additional 5-8 minutes.
  2. Let the lasagna rest for about 30 minutes before slicing to allow flavors to meld.
Serving
  1. Cut into squares and serve on plates. Garnish with fresh herbs and pair with a salad and garlic bread.

Notes

You can prepare lasagna a day in advance. It also freezes well after baking. Customize with additional vegetables or different cheeses to your liking.
