Ingredients
  

For the crust and filling
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cans cherry pie filling (21 oz each)
For the glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract
  • 2 tbsp milk

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Grease and flour a 15x10x1-inch baking pan.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in the vanilla and almond extracts.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  7. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Spread 3 cups of the batter evenly in the prepared pan.
  2. Spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the batter.
  3. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining batter over the cherry filling.
  4. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. Let the bars cool completely on a wire rack.
Glazing and Serving
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract, and milk until smooth.
  2. Drizzle the glaze evenly over the cooled bars and let it set before cutting.
  3. Cut the bars into squares and serve.

Notes

Make these bars ahead of time as they can be baked a day in advance and stored covered at room temperature. Consider adding chopped nuts to the batter for added texture.
