Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix until the batter is smooth.
- Pour the batter mixture into the prepared pan.
- In a separate bowl, toss the sliced apples with 3 tablespoons of brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly over the batter in the pan.
- In another bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, ½ cup of brown sugar, and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and mix until crumbly.
- Sprinkle the crumb mixture over the apples.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 60 minutes.
- Check doneness by inserting a toothpick in the center; it should come out clean.
Serving
- Allow the cake to cool completely before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
