Preparation
- Dissolve the sugar and fresh yeast in lukewarm milk and let foam for about 5-10 minutes.
- In a large bowl, make a well in the flour and pour in the yeast mixture. Add in the oil, egg, and salt. Stir until combined, then knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic for about 8-10 minutes.
- Form the kneaded dough into a ball, cover it with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
- Once risen, divide the dough into two equal parts and shape each part into a ball. Let rest for 10 minutes.
- Roll out one ball into a rectangle about 1 cm thick. Brush with melted butter, then arrange rows of ham and cheese on top. Sprinkle with dried oregano, fold the edges, and cut into pieces.
- Repeat the process with the remaining dough, placing the shaped rolls into a greased baking dish.
- In a small bowl, beat the egg yolk and fresh milk together. Brush this mixture over the rolls, then sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) and bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until they are golden brown.
- Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
These rolls are best served warm, straight from the oven. Pair them with a fresh salad or soup. They also make great appetizers. Freeze well when wrapped tightly in plastic wrap.
